Medicine
Speakers: Dr. Alicia Ross and Ms. Pat Cavanaugh.
They discussed End of Life Care
Dr. Ross is board-certified in internal medicine
with sub-specialties in hematology and oncology. She serves as the
Medical Director of the Holyoke Medical Center Hematology-Oncology
Services and has been a leader in establishing the Hospice Life Care
Center in Holyoke, working with the Center for 15 years. Dr. Ross has
volunteered with the American Cancer Society for more than twenty
years, holding many leadership positions. She has been a member of the
Hampden District Medical Society and its President in 1994 and 1995. In
1996, Ross received the 'Community Clinician of the Year' award by the
local Medical Society.
Ms. Cavanaugh, RN, MS, has been the Clinical
Director of the Hospice Life Care Center since 1990. The Center has
cared for 2000 patients during that time in the home or in long-term
settings supporting the patients and their families. Ms. Cavanaugh was
raised in New York City, and received her education at Pace University
and the University of Rhode Island. She came to Western Massachusetts
as Assistant Professor in the Nursing School at Elms College in
Chicopee, and then worked at the Visiting
Nurse Association where she started the Hospice Program and became its
Director in 1990.
